Thokozani Khupe faces bleak political future. Last weekend’s cancellation of a scheduled rally in Harare by Thokozani Khupe’s cabal could be evidence of the party’s lack of support, MDC-T led by Nelson Chamisa has alleged. Khupe’s party had planned to launch its manifesto at the Harare showgrounds (Nelson Mandela Hall), but the event flopped after its candidates for the general elections and supporters failed to turn up. Thokozani Khupe storms Nelson Chamisa's home ground

LYRICS

Thokozani Khupe storms Nelson Chamisa's home ground. MDC-T faction leader Thokozani Khupe finally takes her campaign to a potentially hostile Harare this weekend with signs the former party Vice President was only expecting a handful followers to attend her rally. Khupe broke ranks with the mainstream MDC-T after she was caught up in a fierce tussle for control with the now-party leader Nelson Chamisa. The power wrangle between the former MDC-T co-VPs was ignited by the death of founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai February this year. Since the time, Khupe has twice been targeted for physical attacks by suspected Chamisa followers who were angered by her refusal to accept the presidential contender’s controversial rise to the helm of the main opposition. The former deputy prime minister, who insists she was the legitimate MDC-T leader, was recently forced to postpone her faction’s congress fearing violent clashes with supporters of Chamisa’s MDC Alliance who were attending a star rally at White City Stadium. But Khupe will this weekend brave possible hostilities from rivals by holding a rally at Harare Show Grounds’ Mandela Hall. While hoping her rally may pass without any incident, it is her decision to hold a rally inside a hall that betrays the opposition leader’s inner beliefs she was a small player compared to her MDC-T rival who continues to attract multitudes to his countrywide rallies. MDC-T (Khupe) spokesperson Linda Masarira denied her boss was holding her rallies in halls. “It is critically important to note that we are not yet having rallies. We are unpacking the manifesto to our provincial structures province by province that is why the event is dubbed ‘Game on B.E.S.T Harare’,” she said, adding that the party was set to hold similar events every Saturday in different provinces. Masarira denied the MDC-T led by Khupe was a small party and that they were afraid of possible violent clashes with Chamisa’s followers. “We are not a small party and we are not focusing on populism beyond deliverables. MDC-T led by Dr. Thokozani Khupe is a realistic party with smart ideas, strategies and plans to take Zimbabwe forward,” she said. “We are not afraid of anyone and we do not expect such barbaric acts from our erstwhile brother Chamisa. “If any violence occurs it will only damage the alliances reputation. Zimbabwe is a constitutional democracy and every political party has the right to reach out to its members.” ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ►Mugabe: https://goo.gl/7eknBE ►Mnangagwa: https://goo.gl/Fv731w ►Chamisa: https://goo.gl/HtGeBg ► Hot news: https://goo.gl/J7mUhU ► ANC: https://goo.gl/x9xRAu ► Scandal: https://goo.gl/YGe8cw ► Zimbawe updates: https://goo.gl/2MJUjp .......................................................................................... Tsvangirai observing minute of silence 5. MPs observing minute of silence 6. SOUNDBITE (English) Morgan Tsvangirai, Leader of Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) (++part overlaid by shot of MPs listening++): "The state of our nation today is well known to all of us. We are an unmitigated embarrassment to the African continent. The state of our nation is actually beyond embarrassment, it is tragic. The world's highest inflation, 80 percent unemployment, education that has plummeted from the best in Africa to one of the worst and a healthcare system that has dire shortages of doctors, nurses, medicines, bed, and blankets. The state of our nation today is state of despair." 7. Wide of venue 8. Cameras 9. SOUNDBITE (English) Morgan Tsvangirai, Leader of Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) (++part overlaid by various shots of conference++): "The violence that is currently taking place must stop. There will be no tolerance or amnesty for those who continue to injure, rape and murder our citizens. We consider these acts as criminal acts, not political acts. Criminal will be prosecuted in terms of the law. Zimbabweans who attack other Zimbabweans are breaking Zimbabwean and international law. " 10. SOUNDBITE (English) Nelson Chamisa, MDC Spokesperson: "This is significant in the sense that this is the first state of the nation address from the MDC President, from the country's president, Mr Tsvangirai, after gaining a clear majority in parliament, after gaining a clear win in the presidential election and of course controlling most of the councils." 11. Tsvangirai greeting party members STORYLINE The Zimbabwean opposition party Movement for Democratic Change convened what it called a session of parliament on Friday and declared itself as Zimbabwe's new ruling party, in a defiant snub to President Robert Mugabe. In what he described as a "state of the nation" address, party leader Morgan Tsvangirai said Zimbabwe was about to witness a new era of governance. The opposition won 110 seats in the 210-seat parliament in March elections, giving it control of the legislature for the first time since independence from Britain in 1980. Mugabe's ZANU-PF party won 97 and three by-elections are pending. Tsvangirai also won the presidential ballot but not by an outright majority. He now faces Mugabe in a runoff vote June 27. Many observers fear that Mugabe will use intimidation and violence to steal the election. Tsvangirai asked his party's newly elected lawmakers, gathered at the Harare International Conference Centre, to stand for a minute's silence for more than 50 people who have died in violence since the March elections. Tens of thousands of opposition supporters have been driven from their homes. The mock parliament session was expected to anger Mugabe's party, which Tsvangirai described as now being the country's opposition. Mugabe, who usually delivers an annual state of the nation address in parliament, dissolved the previous parliament March 28. Tsvangirai said party lawmakers should immediately begin work on a timetable to rewrite the constitution and repeal sweeping security and media laws, along with changes needed to restore the economy. Harare army fracas, President Emmerson Mnangagwa under fire

LYRICS

Harare army fracas: President Emmerson Mnangagwa under fire. President Mnangagwa has come under-fire after he took hours to send condolences to families affected by yesterday’s army killings that left more than three people dead. He is is also yet to comment on the activities of soldiers in the streets of Harare. This morning he sent a message of condolence to families of the victims of yesterday’s army shootings. Said Mnangagwa on his blog post: “I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the families of the victims of yesterday’s violence. All human life is sacred, and their deaths are a tragedy, irrespective of the circumstances. I would also like to wish a speedy recovery to all those injured in yesterday’s events.” A video has since emerged showing the moment a masked soldier opened fire at the back of fleeing protesters. He was not firing warning shots, he aimed directly at the back of people. He only stopped after another masked soldier slapped him at the back. Meanwhile, critics have questioned the stance taken by Mnangagwa and his government after they failed to condemn army brutality in the streets of Harare. Doctor Pedzisai Ruhanya said there is no reason to link Chamisa and his colleagues to the indiscrimnate shooting carried out by armed forces. Said Ruhanya: “How do you blame Chamisa, Biti, Chidziva and MDC Alliance for soldiers who used live ammunition against unarmed civilians? Doesn’t that sound moronic?” Below is Mnangagwa’s full statement: “I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the families of the victims of yesterday’s violence. All human life is sacred, and their deaths are a tragedy, irrespective of the circumstances. I would also like to wish a speedy recovery to all those injured in yesterday’s events. “They, alongside the families of the victims, are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. The most important thing for us now is to move beyond yesterday’s tragic events, and to move forward, together. “I am therefore calling for an independent investigation into what occurred in Harare yesterday. We believe in transparency and accountability, and those responsible should be identified and brought to justice. “It is also more important than ever that we are united, and commit to settling our differences peacefully and respectfully, and within the confines of the law. “We have been in communication with Nelson Chamisa to discuss how to immediately diffuse the situation, and we must maintain this dialogue in order to protect the peace we hold dear. “Together, we must lead by example and show all Zimbabweans that peace is paramount. This land is home to all of us, and we will sink or swim together.” ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ►Mugabe: https://goo.gl/7eknBE ►Mnangagwa: https://goo.gl/Fv731w ►Chamisa: https://goo.gl/HtGeBg ► Hot news: https://goo.gl/J7mUhU ► ANC: https://goo.gl/x9xRAu ► Scandal: https://goo.gl/YGe8cw ► Zimbawe updates: https://goo.gl/2MJUjp .......................................................................................... Fireworks expected as Mnangagwa to face charismatic and energetic Chamisa in 2018 watershed election

LYRICS

Fireworks expected as Mnangagwa to face charismatic and energetic Chamisa in 2018 watershed elections. The titanic MDC leadership battle now appears to be effectively over bar the shouting, after the country’s main opposition alliance unanimously endorsed Nelson Chamisa as its presidential candidate for this year’s harmonised national elections. People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Tendai Biti — who is also a key figure in the MDC Alliance — told the Daily News on Sunday yesterday that Chamisa's nomination had been made with the complete agreement of all the leaders of the grouping. Apart from the mainstream MDC, the alliance includes the PDP, Welshman Ncube’s MDC; Jacob Ngarivhume’s Transform Zimbabwe; Zanu Ndonga which is headed by Denford Masiyarira; and the Multi-Racial Christian Democrats which is led by Mathias Guchutu. Biti and Ncube are former secretaries-general of the original and united MDC which was led by the late Morgan Tsvangirai — whose recent passing away ignited a damaging three-way leadership tussle within the MDC-T, involving Chamisa, Thokozani Khupe and Elias Mudzuri. The MDC National Council — which is the main opposition party’s highest decision-making body outside congress — has also already endorsed Chamisa as the party’s acting president, although the gathering that made that decision was contested and boycotted by Khupe and Mudzuri. Biti said emphatically yesterday, that as a result of the MDC alliance rallying behind Chamisa, the youthful Kuwadzana legislator would be its sole presidential candidate, and would thus square off against President Emmerson Mnangagwa in this year’s presidential elections which are due in less than five months. The watershed polls will be the first in the past two decades not to feature 94-year-old toppled former president Robert Mugabe and the late Tsvangirai. “Anyone who fails to see that we are done with the succession issue needs to see a witch doctor. Tsvangirai gave us Chamisa and that automatically means that he becomes the presidential candidate who will face Mnangagwa and his junta. It’s done. “We are already on the campaign trail having been to Epworth, Mutare and Chitungwiza … and now we are heading to Chinhoyi. We are not going back. We are going for Mnangagwa … we will kick out the junta this time around. “We have have a dynamic leader in Chamisa and we are brave and ready as a team,” a confident Biti told the Daily News on Sunday yesterday — nonchalantly, and without mentioning their names, drowning the leadership aspirations of Khupe and Mudzuri. On Friday, a consultative meeting of the MDC which was held at the party’s Harare headquarters — and which was attended by 639 delegates from 210 party districts — also endorsed Chamisa as Tsvangirai’s successor and the party’s presidential candidate in this year’s ballot. Among other people, this crucial meeting was attended by the national executive, as well as by provincial and district chairpersons from across the country. Meanwhile, the Daily News on Sunday also understands that the party has roped in Tsvangirai's former advisor Alex Magaisa, to broker peace and unity among its feuding leaders. Magaisa apparently enjoys cordial relations with all the different camps in the party. On his part, Chamisa has said that the leadership wrangles bedevilling the party will end soon, adding that he was trying to reach out to Khupe. “I have been trying to get hold of her but without success so far. But, you do not need to worry about her, all will be well and she will be here soon. We will not leave her out,” he said. Chamisa’s endorsement by the MDC Alliance also came amid unconfirmed reports that Mudzuri has now also thrown his weight behind the former ICT minister. Mudzuri himself cryptically told the Daily News on Sunday yesterday that there was need for unity within the party. “Yes, we have an MDC Alliance, but unity should begin with us. We must settle our differences amicably,” he said. "We should be uniting … We must work towards ensuring that the party doesn't split, otherwise we will be left with nothing. We have to unite as a party,” he added. Asked whether he still considered himself the acting MDC president, Mudzuri said: “The party cannot be run through the media”. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ► Hot news: https://goo.gl/J7mUhU ► ANC: https://goo.gl/x9xRAu ► Scandal: https://goo.gl/YGe8cw ► Zimbawe updates: https://goo.gl/2MJUjp .......................................................................................... ZimFirst leader Shumba begs Mugabe to join opposition and reveal how previous elections were rigged

LYRICS

ZimFirst leader Shumba begs Mugabe to join opposition and reveal how previous elections were rigged. Zimbabwe First Party (ZimFirst) leader, Dr Maxwell Shumba has sensationally claimed former that President Robert Mugabe is welcome to join forces with the opposition movement in the country as he will help in revealing how his administration manipulated previous elections. Shumba made the remarks on Sunday soon after his arrival into the country from his base in the United States. He called on Mugabe to brave up and join the opposition forces, a move Shumba said will help the country know how previous polls were manipulated in favour of Zanu PF. “We are saying Mr Mugabe is free to join and participate in opposition politics, hopefully, he will tell us how he was rigging and help to unearth other misdemeanours. “But the question is who will vote for him? We have youngsters who grew up seeing the same old faces which have affected them. I have seen a lot of young men and women who have great potential but have resorted to selling oranges while being supported by their parents and it’s all because of Mugabe’s doing. So I’m not sure if he can survive a day in the opposition front,” said Shumba. Mugabe resigned in November last year after the ‘military intervention’ in the Zanu-PF factional fights under an operation code-named Operation Restore Legacy. The operation ushered in Former Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa who was leading the Lacoste faction in Zanu PF. Mnangagwa has since promised a new era which Shumba said was nothing different from the Mugabe era. “I don’t want to call this a new government… before November 24 we had Zanu-PF 1.0 this Mnangagwa government is just a 2.0 of the same government so there is nothing new. “This Zanu-PF 2.0 is also admitting that it has failed as evidence by Mnangagwa’s planned trip to the United Kingdom where he will extend his begging bowl. So both Mugabe and Mnangagwa failed this country and we want to correct that,” said Shumba. He added that he believes his party will win the much anticipated 2018 harmonized elections and will usher in a new government that will take the country out of the economic doldrums that it is in. “This party has people who are willing to help this country recover from the mess that it finds itself in. We need technocrats as a country, who will write policies and I can say we have them already. “As the government in waiting, we are saying we are ready for elections and we are here to win it. We want to make Zimbabwe a better country, we want the country to be competitive on the global scale,” said Shumba. Shumba, has in the past few days, been engulfed in a power tussle with some members of his party who wanted to wrestle power from him on allegations that he (Shumba) has not registered to vote hence cannot be leading the party. However, Shumba had no kind words for the ‘rogue elements’ as he claimed they were Zanu-PF surrogates planted to destabilize the ZimFirst and he was the constitutionally elected president of the Party. “Anyone who has concern about leadership in the party and have made allegations, were invited to my campaign and unfortunately they failed to impress, so we fired them. These are same people who want to take over the party, we do not associate ourselves with them. “They allege that I have not registered, yes I hadn’t but I’m here to do that and soon we will start our outreach programs,” he said. Shumba has since pulled out of Coalition of Democrats (CODE), an amalgamation of opposition parties, citing incompetence from its leader, Elton Mangoma and appears no-longer interested in coalition settlements. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ► Hot news: https://goo.gl/J7mUhU ► ANC: https://goo.gl/x9xRAu ► Scandal: https://goo.gl/YGe8cw ► Zimbawe updates: https://goo.gl/2MJUjp ..........................................................................................
